REITERATING THE COMMITMENT for the welfare of the farmers, a unique insurance scheme has been mooted for them by the State Government. The Kisan Sree Insurance Scheme will be formally launched by early next month. Permanent physical disability, loss of both the eyes and the hands as a consequence of the abovementioned factors too will fetch Rs one lakh. If a farmer loses one eye or one hand, he will get an insurance amount of Rs 50,000.

Salient feature of the scheme is that the accidental death in this context includes death occurs due to natural calamities like flood, landslide, thunder and lightning. The scheme will cover those farmers having an extent of up to two hectares of land. As the age band is in between 18 to 70, the Government thinks that almost all farming people can be brought under the folder and make secure their life.

What the farmers have to do for joining this scheme, is to visit the nearest Krishi Bhavan and fill up an application form. No payment needs to be made by the farmers. The entire premium for the scheme will be paid by the Government. The Government has to incur an expenditure of Rs one core on this account. The scheme will be operational from March 1st onwards.

About five lakh farmers will be benefited from this novel insurance scheme. The membership campaign for the scheme has already been commenced and the farmers can enrol themselves in the scheme through over 1060 Krishi Bhavans across the State.
